Teens Get the Low Down on Smoking
Spreading the tobacco-free message
Reality Check is all about preventing tobacco use in our youth and making them aware of the deceptive and manipulative marketing tactics the tobacco industry uses at retail and through the media. It’s a teen-led, adult-supported program working across New York State to create change through grassroots education, mobilization, political education and media campaigns.
One such campaign is the Smoke Free Movies initiative, which demands R-ratings for youth-related movies featuring tobacco use. Experts estimate that 120,000 lives a year could be saved by eliminating tobacco from movies.
We support young leaders and activists as they educate fellow teens and other community members about the marketing techniques used by tobacco companies and the dangers of tobacco use.
