Reality Check groups of Western New York recently came together at Beaver Hollow in honor of World No Tobacco Day on May 31. On the youth summit agenda were three days of ice breaking, team building, and s’more eating, just to name a few of the highlights.
Group activities and workshops prepared youth advocates to stand up to the tobacco industry and play a role in creating change in their local communities. Youth went hiking, swimming, fishing and played basketball between planning and brainstorming sessions.
“In New York State, the average age of a new smoker is just 13, so we still have a lot of work to do. After coming to this Youth Summit, I know we have the power to make our vision of a tobacco-free generation a reality,” said Olivia Lang of Olean High School Reality Check.
